ENERGY STAR® QUALIFIED NEW HOMESThe ENERGY STAR for New Homes Initiative promotes energy efficiency guidelines that enable new homes to be approximately 30 percent more energy efficient than conventionally built homes. ENERGY STAR qualified homes are built by licensed ENERGY STAR builders who incorporate resource efficient features into the home to reduce heating, electricity and water use. R-2000 CERTIFIED NEW HOMESThe R-2000 Standard, originally developed in the early 1980s, is a series of strict technical requirements that a builder must follow for energy efficiency, indoor air quality and environmental responsibility. The R-2000 Standard sets criteria for how a house must perform rather than specify exactly how it must be constructed. ENERGUIDE FOR NEW HOMES (EGNH)If you plan on building your own home, and you want it to be recognized as energy efficient, then you will need to obtain an EnerGuide for New Homes rating. An EnerGuide for New Homes rating shows a standard measure of your home’s energy performance. A home that receives an EnerGuide for New Homes rating of 80 or more is required in order to be considered energy efficient by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). |
GRANTS AND REBATES
Purchasers of new ENERGY STAR qualified, R-2000 certified, or EnerGuide for New Homes 80+ rated homes are eligible for a $1,000 rebate, as well as additional rebates for qualifying products.
